About Me – Mireille Heald BVSc, MSTAT

I’m Mireille (pronounced Miray for the non-francophone!)

My background is in veterinary medicine. I worked with both small pets, horses and farm animals in my 10 years a vet. Like many Alexander Technique teachers I was led to the technique because of pain  – see my path out of pain here – and then found that Alexander Technique is about so much more than about posture and movement. It’s about your unconscious habits, reactions, mindfulness, economy of effort …. I could go on!

I think my years as a vet give me a unique take on the Alexander Technique – I’ve seen it is effective but I have a questioning scientific mind, so I’m always educating myself on pain science and postural and movement studies, so that what I do aligns with up to date science.

Having been to many different medical professionals and alternative therapists myself in the past, I know how important it is to be treated with care and respect. I aim to give good quality care,  and accurate information to everyone I teach.

I am a registered teaching member of my professional organisation having completed a 3-year full-time accredited training course. I am fully insured and have an enhanced DBS.

How Back To Active Works

Back to active is about you, so we will work together towards your goals.

In all cases I offer an introductory lesson where I get to know you and what you are hoping to achieve and give some initial hands on work. I will then adjust lessons to suit you and your needs.  I encourage you to ask questions and ask for help with any problems of movement or pain management eg how to best do the exercises you have been given in physiotherapy, or how to manage working at a desk with back pain.

Because life asks a lot of us, I suggest you have you have lessons more  intensively, especially for the first few lessons,  in order to allow the time and space for physical and mental change to happen. If you can clear your schedule for a few weeks to have 2 or more lessons a week you will make faster progress than with weekly lessons. As I can come to your home (Norwich area) you don’t need to worry about travel time, parking etc. But of course I can work around you to find the schedule that works. And once you have built some skills you may only need the odd top up or refresher course to keep you looking after yourself well.
