Workshops for Veterinary Teams

I know what it’s like to struggle with pain and burnout in veterinary work.  And how  difficult it is to find good advice that it is practical to apply.

So I’ve distilled my years of learning about what works for pain into a set of practical, easy-to-apply skills.

My approach focuses on  time-efficient, evidence based techniques that make a real difference, without adding too much to your already full schedule.

I offer 1 hour to half day group workshops  for veterinary teams, online or in- person.

My longer self care skills course is available for individuals to attend, or can be provided to small groups at veterinary clinics.

Reviews

As a physiotherapist, I highly recommend this Self care skills for pain and stress course for
anyone seeking a deeper, more sustainable approach to movement and wellbeing.

Each of the 5 skills taught in this course have a substantial body of evidence behind them to support their effectiveness in pain and stress self management.

Relaxation, postural ease, and greater
movement variety are key foundations for long-term musculoskeletal health. The emphasis on movement efficiency and nervous system care is particularly valuable, helping participants reduce unnecessary tension and respond to daily demands with greater adaptability.

From a personal perspective, the course significantly increased my awareness of where I
habitually hold tension. It helped me recognise subtle patterns of bracing–particularly during
busy or cognitively demanding moments- and, importantly, gave me the tools to release
them. Once you experience that shift, it becomes unmistakable – once you know, you know.

That awareness has stayed with me.

I began building small, consistent self-check-ins into my day: during a bus journey, while writing clinical notes, or between patients. These moments of reflection strengthened my
ability to notice and adjust rather than push through tension.

The course actively invites curiosity and self-enquiry, encouraging reflective practice and problem-solving rather than
rigid technique.

This approach builds genuine self-efficacy and long-term adherence
because the learning comes from direct experience.

Most importantly, the benefits have carried over into my clinical work. During physically
demanding tasks such as assisting individuals with limited mobility and manual handling, I
am more aware of my own coordination, breath, and unnecessary effort. I can organise
myself more efficiently, reducing strain and modelling sustainable movement for patients at
the same time.

This course offers more than improved posture; it develops practical awareness that
supports both personal wellbeing and professional longevity. I believe it is a valuable investment for anyone wishing to move – and work -with greater ease and resilience.

Before undertaking this course, I had been living with chronic upper back and neck stiffness for years. As a veterinary nurse, years of bending, lifting, and contorting myself to safely restrain animals for procedures, combined with the stress of work and personal trauma, had left my body tense and out of tune. I had seen a rheumatologist, physiotherapists, chiropractors and an osteopath, and while I sometimes experienced short periods of relief, nothing lasted. This course has been the first approach that created real, sustainable change.

Mireille’s calm, patient, and deeply knowledgeable approach made me feel safe and supported throughout. Her explanations of pain and stress pathways helped me understand what was happening in my body in a way no one had explained before.

The practical tools, particularly constructive rest and the principles of “dialling up and dialling down” have given me a way to consciously release tension and “un-grip.” I’ve learned to recognise when I’m gripping and, more importantly, how to release, which has completely changed how I manage and relate to my chronic pain.

The course was flexible which made it easy to fit around a full-time job, and a busy home life. Practising felt natural and sustainable. This course has given me 6 weeks free of neck stiffness for the first time in years, along with confidence, clarity, and a practical framework for managing my body day to day.

For any fellow veterinary nurses, vets or friends who spend their days bending, twisting, and restraining animals, or battling chronic pain, this course is a must. It’s gentle, evidence-informed, and teaches tools that are realistic and sustainable.
